History
Built on offshore engineering.
ECO TLP’s foundation program began with deep-water wind. Onboard computing builds on that work and on an earlier heritage in marine engineering.

The experience behind the foundation.
F. M. “Bud” Johnson’s career spanned naval architecture, marine engineering and offshore operations, including work at Phillips Petroleum during the development of North Sea oil and gas. That experience shaped the thinking behind ECO TLP.
A deep-water wind opportunity in 2011 set the foundation program in motion. The first concept followed in 2012, leading to model testing, patents and successive design reviews.
- 2026
Further patents granted
International patent granted for the floating wind turbine foundation.
- 2025
ABS non-site-specific FEED milestone
Foundation design review at the non-site-specific FEED stage.
- 2023
15 MW model testing and ABS review
Model testing at MARIN for a 15 MW turbine configuration, alongside ABS Approval in Principle for the foundation.

The 15 MW foundation scale model in the MARIN test basin, October 2023. - 2018
U.S. patent granted
Patent granted for construction, installation, and deployment of an offshore wind turbine on a concrete tension-leg platform.
- 2014
6 MW model testing at MARIN
Physical model testing for the foundation program.
- 2012
The first foundation concept
A slip-formed concrete floating foundation developed for offshore wind in deep water.-
Model testing and ABS design reviews relate to the offshore wind foundation.
